Ration card (rashan card) is a card issued by the Government for poor people to get a ration at low price. Rashan card can be applied either online or offline so, to apply ration card you need to have required documents. Here we are providing state wise procedure to apply for ration card as well as to check the ration card status.

What is Ration Card

A ration card is the right of a permanent Indian citizen/ an old citizen of Andaman or Nicobar  provided by the Indian government to save some money and buy essential commodities at reasonable price . It is issued under the authority of state government, where the ration card details and ration card information is provided to the people at their nearest rationing center.

State Government issues Ration Card  to -

A) Above poverty line (APL) these cards are white in color

B) Below Poverty Line(BPL) these are blue in color

C) Antyodaya Families(AAY) /very poor families get a yellow color card

For distributing food grains, sugar and kerosene in a fixed quantity. Besides this state government also issues temporary ration cards for a fixed period to the people for relief purposes.

A ration card being an important document for an Indian resident works as a document of identification.  This document is very useful for every Indian citizen.

Ration Card Details :

To Obtain a ration card one has to fill up some ration card information at the rationing office.

1) One needs to fill up a form provided to put up ration card details required.

2) Ones have to submit one address proof that could be telephone bill, electricity bill, bank pass book, etc.

3) Voter’s ID card and a revenue stamp of 2 rupees would also be required as per the ration card details requirement.

Ones the ration card information is filled it needs to be submitted. Take an acknowledgement and then a person from the rationing office would come to supervise your  residential area and further report for you to get a ration card within a month.

Surrender Certificate :

If a citizen already hold a card of another place and wants to apply for a new place he first needs to surrender his earlier certificate.

Deletion Certificate :

In case of bifurcation or dead, the name of the member has to be removed.

Addition Certificate :

In case of a child’s birth the name is to be added by producing a birth certificate

Who Issues Ration Card?

Ration Card is issued by the Indian Public Distribution System (PDS). However the main issuing authority is appointed on district by state governments.

The Ration Card is issued to the public directly by District Food & Supplies Department or another issuing authority appointed by state government.

The Application Form for Ration Card is also available in the office of District Food & Supply Office.

The Online Application System is also available. Online Application for Ration Card can be filled online through the respective state’s website.

How To Apply Online for Ration Card

Ration Card application forms are being accepted through Online Mode by the various state governments. Simply go through the official website your State’s Food Supply Department. Find the Link of Ration Card Online Application and Submit the Application Form. You are also required to upload the family photo and ID/ Residence proofs on the same website. This way you can get your Ration Card at your home.

How to Apply Offline for Ration Card

Ration Card is the necessary document for Indian citizens. The process for applying for Ration Card is not a hard job. You can simply go to your Local District Food & Supply Department/ Concerned Issuing Authority for applying for Ration Card.

Get Application Form for Ration Card/ or Download Ration Card Application Form (called D-1 Form in some states) from internet. Duly fill up the form and submit it to the Food Supply Department.

You will also have to submit two/three (vary from state to state) attested photos of passport size, of your family along with the Ration Card Application Form. 

The applicant will have to give an affidavit declaring that he has not having another ration card anywhere in India, and he/ she has not added the name(s) of the members of his family in another ration cards. He has to declare his permanent address in the affidavit. The affidavit must also show that the applicant is living in the area from last five years.

The department will give a sip to the applicant/ consumer after submitting the application form.

You’ll receive your Ration with in 15 days of applying.

However you can also apply for Tatkal Service, if you want Ration Card urgently.

What are the documents required for Ration Card

In all the States of India, most commonly asked documents are below mentioned, so required documents are vary one state to another state however most commonly required documents are addhaar card, address proof, if inclusion birth certificate or marriage certificate.

  1. Aadhaar card
  2. Employee identity card
  3. Voter ID
  4. Passport
  5. Any government issued identity card
  6. Health card (including the Aaragoyasri card)
  7. Driving license

 - Address Proof to apply for Ration Card:

  1. Voter ID
  2. House ownership document/ rental agreement
  3. Driving license
  4. Aadhaar card
  5. Any recent utility bill including electricity, water, and gas bills
  6. Passport
  7. First page of bank passbook
